Principle
Houston brand studio founded in 2005 that does naming, identity, websites, signage and packaging, mostly for Houston restaurants, public spaces and cultural institutions.
Why choose Principle?
Trusted by Houston Zoo, Ion District, Buffalo Bayou Partnership and other leading companies.
In short
Principle has been designing identities out of Houston since 2005, and much of its work is for places people walk through: a zoo, a bayou, an innovation district, restaurants and hotels. The team is kept deliberately small, with principals spread across Houston, Richmond, Nashville and Southern California and specialists brought in per project. That place-making depth puts it at #3 on our Houston list.
The Houston Zoo rebrand shows the full range: strategy, naming, a verbal and visual identity built on the line See them. Save them., a website, merchandise, and signage and wayfinding for a site with more than 2 million visitors a year. For the Rice-led Ion District it built an identity for a 16-acre, 12-block development planned over a decade, and Buffalo Bayou Partnership traded its old buffalo logotype for a new thread mark.
Restaurant groups, venues, public districts and nonprofits in and around Houston get the most from it, particularly when the name, the logo, the website and the sign on the door all need to come from one source. Goode Company, Pappadeaux and Hotel Amparo are typical of the list. Software companies needing product UI or a SaaS marketing build will not find that work in the portfolio.
